Overton Village Condo Project Approved By Council

The Mountain Brook City Council approved the controversial Overton Village condo project this week.

MOUNTAIN BROOK, AL - A controversial development project in Mountain Brook just received approval from the Mountain Brook City Council. The Overton Village Condos can now move forward, after much opposition from residents.

The Mountain Brook City Council approved the rezoning of property near Overton Village from mixed-use to residential, effectively green lighting the development plans for Overton Village Condos, reports Village Living.

The condos will be built on Fairhaven Drive, and the project has been scaled back from its original plan of 44 units to 23 units. A report by the Birmingham Business Journal says the height of the development was also adjusted, and the portions of the project slated for Vestavia Hills were pulled from the project.

The height of the development was also adjusted, and the portions of the project slated for Vestavia Hills were pulled from the project. A gated access drive for emergency vehicles only is also planned for Poe Drive.

The project has faced opposition from nearby residents, who have cited concerns about traffic, height of the building and effects on the school system. According to the statement of purpose for the project, the target demographic would be residents looking to downsize from larger single-family homes, as well as young professionals without children.
