📰 News we're reading
1. Third annual Harvest on Hoyt returns to fund student-led community projects (villagelivingonline.com) — Mountain Brook's third annual Harvest on Hoyt community supper will again turn Hoyt Lane into one long shared table to fund student-led Leadership Mountain Brook projects. The event supports improvements like park updates, library activities, and city guides, while giving high school juniors and seniors hands-on experience with how Mountain Brook's government, schools, and businesses work together.
2. Mardi Gras meets Halloween: Mystics of Mountain Brook parade returns on new date (villagelivingonline.com) — Mountain Brook's beloved Mystics of Mountain Brook parade is returning on a new date this year, rolling through Crestline Village on Friday, Oct. 30, at 4 p.m. instead of Halloween night. Organizers and the Chamber say the Mardi Gras-meets-Halloween event draws thousands, boosts local businesses, and showers crowds with T-shirts, beads, MoonPies, and prizes for standout floats.
3. Where to Shop in Birmingham This Fall (abouttown.io) — Mountain Brook Village and nearby Lane Parke are spotlighted as some of the best places to spend a fall afternoon shopping, with renovated boutiques and easy dining options in walking distance. The piece also previews October's Shop Save & Share event, which offers discounts at Mountain Brook and surrounding-area retailers while supporting Junior League community projects.
4. Driving in the dark: Hoover officials aim to fix interstate lighting woes (hooversun.com) — Drivers from Mountain Brook are being affected by widespread outages in interstate lighting along I-459 and I-65, where multiple cities share responsibility for aging, often-confusing infrastructure. Local officials and Alabama Power are mapping which poles belong to which jurisdiction so repairs and cost-sharing can move forward and make nighttime driving safer across the corridor.
