Spartans Heading To Finals For the 5th Time in 6 Years
Mountain Brook topped Central-Phenix City to reach the finals for the fifth time in six years.

BIRMINGHAM, AL - It is time to start mentioning the Mountain Brook Spartans boys basketball team as a modern dynasty. The Spartans trounced Central-Phenix City Thursday in the state semifinals 70-42 to reach the championship game for the fifth time in the last six seasons. The win brought Mountain Brook to 32-4 on the season.
Mountain Brook's All-American forward Trendon Watford posted a double-double with 22 points and 11 rebounds, while Lior Berman added 13 points and Sean Elmore dropped in 11. The Spartans will face McGill-Toolen on Saturday at 5:45 p.m.
The Spartans got off to a slow start, clinging to a 28-22 lead as Watford only had 8 points in the first half, but Mountain Brook steamrolled Central in the second half. Watford scored 15 points in the third quarter and it was all Mountain Brook from there.

If the Spartans win Saturday, they will repeat as state champs for the second time in the school's history, and claim their fourth championship overall.
