Business Growth Highlights Oneonta's New Year

Hometown Sports will cover nine acres of land

Following the opening of a new strip mall late last year, the city of Oneonta is now watching as a 75,000 sq. ft Hometown Sports facility slowly emerge from ground level a few blocks from the intersection of US 231 - 75 on the grounds of the old agri-business center.

The nine acre site will be home to a 2,000 - 2,500 seating capacity building featuring a multi-use court floor, multi-purpose turf field and several major amenities.

The multi-use court floor has room for : four NCAA regulation basketball courts, four futsal courts, six NCAA regulation volleyball courts and 16 official pickleball courts.

The multi-purpose turf field can accommodate soccer, flag football and lacrosse play areas.

Amenities will include automated equipment with retractable/adjustable goals, team rooms, meeting spaces/conference rooms, complimentary wifi, a food truck courtyard with water/power hookups and RV parking with full hookups including water/power and sewer with reservations.

The facility is a joint project of the Blount County Economic Development Council, the Blount County Commission and HomeTown Bank of Alabama who all have a shared vision for promoting physical fitness, fostering community bonds, and driving economic growth.

The complex is envisioned as a hub for athletic excellence and community engagement. From basketball and volleyball courts to pickleball courts and soccer fields, every corner of the campus is being meticulously planned to cater to athletes of all ages and interests.

During the last couple months of last year Oneonta welcomed the opening of Marshalls, Five Below, Rack Room Shoes and a soon to be opened Ulta beauty supply along with Mavis Tires & Brakes in a new strip mall on U.S. 75 north near Walmart.

After being closed for some time Burger King got a total renovation and opened to long drive-thru lines as Waffle House opened a new restaurant nearby.

A new convenience store, A.J. Quick Stop, opened next to the Hometown Sports construction site and Insane McCain Fireworks opened a "superstore" on US 75.

Several other businesses are planned for the new year as Oneonta continues to grow.
