16-Year-Old Injured In Center Point Shooting

A 16-year-old victim has life-threatening injuries from a shooting in Center Point Thursday.

JEFFERSON COUNTY, AL — A shooting in Center Point has left a 16-year-old victim fighting for his life at UAB Hospital. The incident occurred just before midnight April 3 in the 1900 block of 1st Street NE.

Sgt. Joni Money of the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office said the victim was a passenger in a vehicle, and the driver of the vehicle observed a silver SUV pulled over on the side of the roadway, and a black male standing in the middle of the road with a gun.

Money said the driver reported that the man began to shoot into the vehicle. As the victims attempted to flee the scene, the suspect rammed the vehicle with his SUV. The victim was able to drive away from the scene and call 911.

Once stopped, the driver discovered that the passenger had been stuck by the gunfire. The passenger was transported to UAB Hospital with life threatening injuries, Money said.
