Birmingham Man Arrested For Attempted Murder In Center Point

CENTER POINT, AL - A 21-year-old Birmingham man has been arrested for his role in a Tuesday night shooting incident in Center Point. Just after 5:30 p.m. on December 18, deputies were called to the 2400 block of 5th Street NW to investigate a shooting complaint.

It was reported that shots had been fired from two cars at a group of four men who had been standing outside the residence. Homes and cars were struck by gunfire, but no one was injured.
The victims told deputies that they had been outside when two vehicles drove slowly down the street. The occupants of the vehicles began shooting at them. They also reported that they knew the suspects and had been in a previous altercation with them. The victims provided the names of the suspects and a description of the vehicles. Video of the shooting was obtained by the Metro Area Crime Center.

The suspect and vehicle descriptions were communicated to deputies who patrol the Center Point area. On December 19, a deputy on patrol spotted one of the vehicles at an apartment complex and conducted a traffic stop. The passenger in the car was found to be in possession of a handgun that had been reported as stolen to the Huntsville Police Department.

Both the driver and passenger were taken to the Center Point substation to be questioned by detectives. It was learned that the driver of the car had not been involved in the shooting and had no knowledge of it and was released. The passenger, a 21-year-old male, admitted to taking part in the shooting by driving one of the cars involved.

The passenger was arrested and taken to the Jefferson County Jail to await formal charges of Attempted Murder. His name is withheld pending formal charges.

The investigation is ongoing and additional arrests and charges are expected.
