Birmingham Man Dies In I-20 Crash
A 57-year-old Birmingham man was killed in a crash Friday on I-20 near Irondale.
IRONDALE, AL - A 57-year-old Birmingham man was killed in a crash on Interstate 20 Friday morning. The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Gerald Strickland.
The multi-vehicle accident happened about 5:20 a.m. on I-20 westbound at exit 136. An Alabama Media Group report said the initial call was a crash with a pedestrian struck. Among the vehicles involved were a Kia Optima, a GMC pickup truck and a Ford Fusion.
Troopers said Strickland and another motorist - a Samford University football player - exited their vehicles following a crash. Both were struck by a third motorist in a secondary accident.
Strickland was pronounced dead on the scene at 5:42 a.m. The other victim suffered broken bones.
