Cyclist Fatally Struck On Highway 79

A bicyclist was struck and killed by a vehicle on Highway 79 Monday night.

JEFFERSON COUNTY, AL — A bicyclist was struck by a vehicle Monday night and died from the collision. The incident occurred just before 11 p.m. in the 2800 block of Highway 79 near Tarrant, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office.

Sgt. Joni Money said the cyclist was struck by a pickup truck while crossing the northbound lanes of Highway 79. The driver of the truck remained on the scene, she said.

The accident remains under investigation.
