Death Of 2-Year-Old In Center Point Leads To Arrests
A man and a woman have been arrested in connection with the death of a 2-year-old child in Center Point.

JEFFERSON COUNTY, AL — A man and a woman have been arrested in connection with the death of a 2-year-old child in Center Point. The incident occurred Wednesday just before 1 a.m.
Sgt Joni Money of the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office said deputies were dispatched to the 1600 Block of 6th Street North West in Center Point to investigate the report of a 2-year-old child who was not breathing.
Deputies were told by the parents that the child had been eating and began choking, Money said. The child was transported to Children’s Hospital where he was pronounced dead. After detectives began speaking with medical personnel, it was discovered that the child had multiple injuries.

Demetric Hampton Sr., 26, and 24-year-old Terrica Harris have been charged with aggravated child abuse in the death of 2-year-old, Demetric Hampton, Jr. The charges carry no bond. Additional charges are possible as this investigation is continuing, Money said.
