Deputy Involved In Center Point Shooting

An attempted traffic stop in Center Point turned into a shooting as the armed driver fled a Jefferson County Sheriff's deputy.

CENTER POINT, AL - An attempted traffic stop by a Jefferson County Sheriff's deputy took a violent turn over the weekend when the driver of the vehicle fled the pursuing deputy. The deputy reportedly tried to stop the driver for a moving violation, but the driver refused to stop.

A report by the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office said the driver of the vehicle fled into an apartment complex parking lot off Polly Reed Road in Center Point Sunday morning just before 10 a.m.

The driver reportedly exited the vehicle with a handgun, and the deputy then fired and struck the driver. The handgun was recovered and later found to be stolen. The driver of the vehicle is being treated for his injuries, while the Deputy was unharmed.

The investigation has been turned over to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.
