Former Alabama Corrections Officer Charged With Sexual Assault
A former Alabama Department of Corrections Officer has been charged in Georgia of sexual assault.

SPRINGVILLE, AL - A former Alabama state correctional officer has been arrested on multiple charges stemming from an alleged sexual assault that occurred more than two years ago in Fulton County, Georgia.
Matthew Lee Moore, 48, of Springville was arrested March 30 and charged with aggravated sodomy, false imprisonment, and assault with the intent to commit rape of a female victim in Sandy Springs, Georgia. The alleged assault occurred at a hotel in Sandy Springs and has been under investigation since it was reported to authorities in Nov. 2015.
Warrants for Moore’s arrest issued by the Superior Court of Fulton County were carried out by the Alabama Department of Corrections Investigations and Intelligence Division that assisted Georgia law enforcement in its investigation. Moore surrendered without incident and was taken to the St. Clair County Jail to await extradition to Georgia.

Moore was employed at the St. Clair Correctional Facility in Springville and had been with the ADOC since 2001. Moore immediately resigned from his position at the time of his arrest. No additional information is being released on the case pending an ongoing investigation.
