Gunfire Breaks Out During I-20 Road Rage Incident

A road rage incident on Interstate 20 resulted in gunfire being exchanged on Thursday morning.

BIRMINGHAM, AL - A road rage incident on Interstate 20 near Irondale Thursday morning resulted in an exchange of gunfire.

The incident occurred at around 7:30 a.m. on Interstate 20 westbound before the Interstate 459 south ramp. A Pell City man whose name was not released reported to Irondale Police that he was being harassed by another man who he said had cut him off on the road, according to the Trussville Tribune.

The man reported that this led to the suspect pulling out "what appeared to be an AK-47" and fired at him. Detective Sergeant Michael Mangina from the Irondale Police Department said that the weapon he fired was actually a pistol. The man reportedly returned fire with his own gun.

After police arrived at the scene they discovered at least nine holes in the man’s car and the passenger side window was shot out. A passenger was riding with him during the incident.
