MONTGOMERY, AL - A truly historic season for the Hewitt-Trussville High School softball team came to a victorious end Sunday when the Huskies defeated Sparkman to take home the state championship. The Huskies had an uphill climb in the tournament in Montgomery, but put together an impressive run to capture the school's first-ever softball championship.

The team started the double-elimination tournament with a loss to Fairhope, which meant the remaining games for the Huskies would be played out of the losers bracket - which is no small feat. However, they notched wins against Central, Spain Park, Baker and Auburn to reach the finals against Sparkman, who they had to beat twice.

“The fight, the sheer willingness to keep going forward,” said coach Taylor Burt to the Trussville Tribune. “I love these kids, and this is all we’ve talked about all year long and they’re doing it at the right time. Never down, never out. The just kept fighting.”
