Huskies Knock Off Defending Champs To Advance To Final Four

The Hewitt-Trussville girls basketball team upset defending champion Spain Park to advance to the state semifinals.

HANCEVILLE, AL - The Hewitt-Trussville girls basketball team is heading to the Final Four at the BJCC after upsetting defending champion Spain Park 72-56 for the Northwest Regional title Tuesday at Wallace State in Hanceville.

The Huskies were paced by Amiya Payne's 23 points - shooting 6 of 13 from the field, including three 3-pointers. She was also a perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line.

The Huskies only missed four of the 29 free throws they shot in the game. HTHS also got 12 points apiece from freshman D’Yonna Jones and junior Leah Harrison.

Hewitt-Trussville will play Auburn at 9 a.m. on Feb. 28 at Legacy Arena in Birmingham.
