From local fields to national fame, these stars got their start in Trussville.

Sports run deep in Trussville, and Hewitt-Trussville High School has long been at the heart of it. It’s no surprise some standout talent once wore the Huskies uniform. Today we're celebrating five unforgettable athletes from Hewitt-Trussville High School who made a name for themselves well beyond the hometown field.
1. Jay Barker – NFL & CFL Quarterback (Green Bay Packers, Toronto Argonauts)
Hewitt-Trussville High alum Jay Barker rose to national prominence as the starting quarterback of the University of Alabama’s 1992 national championship team and was later named SEC Player of the Year. He went on to play professionally in both the NFL and CFL, including time with the Green Bay Packers and Toronto Argonauts, before transitioning into a long career in sports media and broadcasting. 2. Steele Hall – MLB Shortstop (Cincinnati Reds)
During his time as a Husky, Steele Hall emerged as one of the nation’s top high school shortstop prospects. The now-18-year-old was selected ninth overall in the 2025 MLB Draft by the Cincinnati Reds directly out of high school, marking one of the highest draft selections in program history and launching his professional baseball career. 3. Jordan Lynn – Soccer Player & Football Kicker
High school soccer star Jordan Lynn made history during her time at Hewitt-Trussville High by serving as a placekicker on the school’s football team. 4. Justin Tubbs – Professional Basketball Player (Ottaway SkyHawks)
After playing at Hewitt-Trussville High School, Justin Tubbs continued his basketball career at the University of Alabama as a guard in the SEC. 5. Noah Igbinoghene – NFL Cornerback (Miami Dolphins, Dallas Cowboys)
Former Husky Noah Igbinoghene distinguished himself as a multi-sport standout, winning a national championship in the triple jump while also excelling in football.
