JeffCo Sheriff’s Deputies Assist With Multi-County Apprehension

Jefferson County deputies assisted in a pursuit of burglary suspects, a chase that began in Hamilton Friday and ended in Jefferson County.

JEFFERSON COUNTY, AL — A multi-county pursuit that began in Hamilton Friday morning required the assistance of the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office. Both Marion and Walker County were pursuing a vehicle on an attempted stop that occurred Friday morning, and continued into Jefferson County.

Sgt. Joni Money of the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office said the JCSO was advised at approximately 2 a.m. Friday of a vehicle pursuit that was entering Jefferson County on I-22. The occupants of the vehicle being pursued were suspects in a burglary, Money said.

Once deputies arrived on the scene, they found that the vehicle had wrecked and two men had been apprehended. Two additional subjects were later apprehended by the Jefferson County K-9 Unit and K-9 Officers from nearby Donaldson Prison, according to the JCSO report.

Two of the men were taken to the Jefferson County Jail in Birmingham: 24-year-old Darryius Eugene Tompkins was arrested on an outstanding warrant for attempted murder, with bond set at $60,000, and 23-year-old Leeco Demon Whittington was charged with receiving stolen property, possession of burglary tools and unlawful possession of marijuana, with bonds totaling $36,000.
