JeffCo Sheriff's Detectives Investigate Domestic Violence Case
Jefferson County Sheriff's detectives are conducting a domestic violence investigation in northeast Jefferson County.

BIRMINGHAM, AL - Jefferson County Sheriff’s detectives are conducting a domestic violence investigation in northeast Jefferson County.
At about 10 a.m. Thursday morning, deputies responded to a report of a domestic violence call at a home in the 2800 block of 7th Street NE in Center Point. An adult female reported that her estranged husband had broken into the house and attempted to sexually assault her. She was armed with a handgun and shot him in the leg to fend him off.

The suspect fled the scene in a vehicle, but was stopped by deputies in the 1900 block of Old Springville Road. He was taken to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Post questioning by sheriffs detectives, 31-year-old Eric Austin was arrested and charged with Attempted Rape and Domestic Violence Second Degree.
He remains under guard at the hospital and will be booked into Jail when released from medical care.
