Jefferson County Schools Continue Meal Distribution Program

The Jefferson County school system has partnered with a local organization to continue its school meal program.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — The Jefferson County school system will continue its school meals program amid school closures during the coronavirus pandemic. The system has partnered with Kikstart, Inc. to continue meal service for students.

"We sincerely appreciate Kikstart for stepping up and helping our students," said Dr. Walter Gonsoulin, Superintendent of Jefferson County Schools. "They are providing a valuable service during this difficult time."

Gonsoulin said approximately 12,000 meals will be available daily.

The program will run on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from April 8th through June 5th. Plans for the summer months will be announced at a later date. The feeding program is open to anyone 18 years and younger and will be free of charge.

Students will be given breakfast and lunch. In order to minimize contact and maintain social distancing, the program will be curbside pickup only.
