Man Charged With Capital Murder In Death Of 2-Year-Old Child

The July 29 death of a 2-year-old child in Jefferson County has resulted in capital murder charges against the child's father.

JEFFERSON COUNTY, AL — The July 29 death of a 2-year-old child has resulted in the arrest of the child's father on capital murder charges. Jamarius Ruffin was arrested and charged on Friday.

Sgt. Joni Money of the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office said Amari Ruffin had been sleeping with his father in their home in Forestdale when it was discovered that he was not breathing. The child was transported to Children’s Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

The investigation by the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office determined that the child died from blunt force trauma to the head. During the examination, officials also found previous injuries the child had suffered.

Ruffin is in custody at Jefferson County Jail with no bond.
