PELL CITY, AL -- A couple has been arrested after authorities found more than 50 animals in their Pell City home. An Animal Control Officer responded to the Shady Dale Mobile Home Park on October 4 on a complaint, and found 47 cats and three dogs alive in the home, and multiple animals dead.

The homeowners - Donna and James Mullins - have been charged with five counts each of aggravated animal cruelty, which is a felony. They also are charged with multiple counts each of failure to bury or burn an animal within 24 hours of its death and failure to immunize the animals, all of which are misdemeanor crimes. Their bonds total $18,000 apiece. Donna Mullins is also charged with obstructing a government operation.

A WBRC report said three adults and two adult children lived in the home, which was covered in roaches and feces. The Pell City Fire Department treated the people who lived in the home. Officers contacted the Alabama Department of Human Resources, which responded to the scene.
