Pinson Valley Captures State Title

The Pinson Valley Indians football team finished an undefeated season this weekend by taking home its first state championship.

TUSCALOOSA, AL - The Pinson Valley Indians did something this weekend the school had never done before: The Indians defeated Wetumpka High School 31-10 in the AHSAA 6A state championship game at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa Friday night, capping off an undefeated season.

On a snow-filled field, Pinson Valley won its 15th game of the season in dominating fashion. Indians quarterback Bo Nix - son of Pinson Valley head coach and former Auburn QB Patrick Nix - was named the MVP of the game, as he accounted for all three Pinson touchdowns in the second half with runs of 1 and 13 yards and a 23-yard TD pass. He finished 13-of-25 for 223 yards. He tacked on 28 yards rushing.

The Indians were one of just two unbeaten AHSAA teams in the state. This was Pinson Valley's first football state championship, and only the second sport in which the Indians have won a state title. PVHS has won state wrestling titles in 1980, 1981, 1982, 1984, and 1990.
