Pinson Valley, Clay-Chalkville, Center Point Advance In Playoffs

Wins by Center Point, Clay-Chalkville and Pinson Valley kept local schools' hopes of a state championship alive.

JEFFERSON COUNTY, AL — The pool of teams still alive in the race for a state football championship has become smaller after the first round of playoff games last week, and local teams Pinson Valley, Clay-Chalkville and Center Point all survived another week with wins.

Pinson Valley's 42-7 win over Homewood puts the Indians in prime position to defend their state title. They will face Fort Payne in the second round of the 6A playoffs. Fort Payne (now 10-2) defeated Hartselle 24-17 last week.

Also in 6A action, Clay-Chalkville advanced to the second round by blanking Helena on the road 17-0. In what was considered an upset, the Cougars took care of business and host 9-3 Athens in the second round. Athens blew out Buckhorn 62-14 in the first round.
