Pinson Valley, Hewitt-Trussville Drop 2 Spots In ASWA Polls

TRUSSVILLE, AL - Week 1 losses by Pinson Valley and Hewitt-Trussville dropped both teams two spots in their respective Alabama Sports Writers Assocation polls. Clay-Chalkville, coming off a win over Griffin (Ga.), rose from No. 5 to No. 4 in the 6A poll.

Pinson Valley's loss, while not a surprise considering its foe was defending 7A champion Hoover, dropped the Indians from the No. 1 spot in the 6A poll, likely due to the huge margin of defeat in the loss (52-14). Hewitt-Trussville lost a heart-stopper in the last minute of its nationally televised game against Cedar Grove (Ga.), as Huskies quarterback Paul Tyson threw for 447 yards with 4 touchdowns.

Clay-Chalkville opened the season with a 35-20 win over Griffin High School (Ga.) in the inaugural C1N Football Classic, presented by Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton. The win put the Cougars into the No. 4 spot in the 6A poll, just behind rival Pinson Valley. Clay-Chalkville also received two first place votes in the most recent poll. The Cougars travel to Madison this week for a Thursday night game against 7A No. 10 James Clemens.

Hewitt-Trussville will play another Georgia high school in West Forsyth this weekend, and Pinson Valley faces Ramsay at home.
