Pinson Valley Stays Alive To Defend State Title
After losses by Clay-Chalkville and Center Point, Pinson Valley remains the only local school left in the playoffs.
PINSON, AL — It was a great run by local teams in the Alabama High School Athletic Association's football playoffs, but Pinson Valley emerged from Round 2 as the only local team still around to win a state title.
The Indians defeated Muscle Shoals 26-14 last week in the quarterfinals. Pinson Valley plays Oxford in the semifinals Friday, a rematch of a game the Indians lost 33-34 on a touchdown pass in the final seconds of the game. Since then, the Indians have been undefeated.
Clay-Chalkville's hope to face cross-town rival Pinson Valley faded last week with a loss in the quarterfinals to Oxford, a team the Cougars beat earlier this season. The 20-13 loss ened Clay-Chalkville's season, a successful campaign that saw the Cougars go 10-3.
