Sheriff's Helicopter Makes Emergency Landing In St. Clair County

While helping law enforcement in St. Clair County search for a missing kayaker, a Shelby Co. Helicopter had to make an emergency landing.

ST. CLAIR COUNTY, AL - The Shelby County Sheriff's Office was just helping a fellow law enforcement agency with a search when it ran into trouble Thursday. At approximately 1:15 p.m., the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office helicopter was assisting in search operations with law enforcement agencies in St. Clair County, searching for signs missing kayaker James Lowery, Sr.

During the course of aerial operations, the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office helicopter came in contact with Alabama Power lines and was forced to make an emergency landing in a field near the Logan Martin Dam. There are no injuries reported at this time. The Federal Aviation Administration and Alabama Power have been notified.

Lowery has been missing since Friday, when his kayak was found along the Coosa River.
