ST. CLAIR COUNTY, AL — An Alabama prison guard was arrested this week on charges that he smuggled contraband to prisoners at the St. Clair County Correctional Facility. Willie Gene McLemore Jr., from Springfield, was arrested following a two-year investigation.

McLemore joined the ADOC as a corrections officer in 2013 and was assigned to St. Clair Correctional Facility in Springville. A report by Alabama Media Group said the probe by the ADOC’s Investigations and Intelligence Division showed that McLemore was receiving money in exchange for smuggling illegal contraband into the prison.

Using financial forensics, agents discovered evidence that showed McLemore had received electronic transfers of money into his personal bank account that was traced to an inmate’s criminal activity inside the prison.
