2 Charged With Murder In Death Of Moody Police Officer

Two people have been charged with capital murder in the slaying of Moody police officer Lt. Stephen Williams.

MOODY, AL — Two people have been charged with capital murder in the death of Lt. Stephen Williams of the Moody Police Department. Williams was shot and killed in the line of duty Tuesday night.

In a news conference Friday, the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office identified the suspects as Tapero Corlene Johnson, 27, and Marquisha Anissa Tyson, 28, both from Birmingham.

Williams, a 23-year law enforcement veteran, had responded to a call at the Super 8 motel in Moody when he was shot upon arrival. Williams was transported to UAB Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Funeral services for Williams will be Monday, June 8, at the First Baptist Church in Moody.

Visitation will be June 7 at 5 p.m. at the Southern Heritage Funeral Home at 475 Cahaba Valley Road, in Pelham.
