Teen From Clay Identified As Shooting Victim

A fatal shooting claimed the life of a 17-year-old victim from Clay, according to Jefferson County investigators.

JEFFERSON COUNTY, AL - Sheriff’s detectives are conducting a homicide investigation after a teen was shot in northeastern Jefferson County Sunday. Deputies responded to a report of a shooting at a residence in the 4400 block of Winchester Hills Way at 1 p.m. Sunday afternoon. They arrived to find a 17-year-old male victim suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. The victim was transported to an area hospital with life threatening injuries. The victim died shortly after arriving at the hospital. The victim was identified as Brandon Alexander Burpo, 17, of Clay.

Information at the scene is that the victim was familiar with the suspect and went outside to meet them. When the victim approached the suspect pulled a gun and began shooting. It appears the victim was targeted and this was not a random act. After firing the shots the suspect fled the scene in mid sized green sedan.
The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information about this crime is asked to call the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office at 205-325-1450.
