Teen Indicted For Church Carnival Shootings In Center Point

A Birmingham teen has been indicted on seven felonies involving a shooting at a carnival at Cathedral of the Cross church in Center Point.

BIRMINGHAM, AL - A Jefferson County grand jury indicted 17-year-old Laeric Bailey on seven counts of second-degree assault stemming from an incident that occurred at a carnival at the Cathedral of the Cross church in Center Point in April of 2017. The shooting left five people wounded, including an 11-month old girl.

According to a report by Alabama Media Group, the shooting happened at the annual spring carnival at the church, April 15. Approximately 900 people were at the carnival at the time, and seven people were shot and injured. None of the victims ended up with life-threatening injuries. Bailey was arrested when he showed up for school at Huffman High School three days later.

The indictments say Bailey was armed with a pistol. A trial date has not yet been set.
