Trussville Student Selected For U.S. Senate Youth Program

Hewitt-Trussville High School senior Logan Cobb was chosen for the U.S. Senate Youth program.

TRUSSVILLE, AL - Hewitt-Trussville High School senior Logan Cobb was honored by U.S. Senator Richard Shelby at the 56th annual U.S. Senate Youth Program last week. The program rewards students for outstanding leadership abilities and strong commitment to volunteer work.

Cobb currently serves as a senior class senator and Scholar’s Bowl team captain, and is a member of his band’s leadership team as well as co-section leader of the clarinets. Following graduation, Cobb plans to attend the University of Alabama at Birmingham and pursue a dual major in music and political science and a minor in environmental science.

The U.S. Senate Youth Program was established in 1962 and serves as an educational opportunity for high school students interested in pursuing careers in public service.

Two delegates from each state, the District of Columbia, and the Department of Defense Education Activity are selected each year to spend a week in our nation’s capital, learning about and experiencing the U.S. federal government.

The delegates selected also rank academically in the top one percent of their state among high school juniors and seniors.

Additionally, each student selected to participate in the program is awarded a $10,000 scholarship to assist with undergraduate studies at any chosen university.
