2026 West Alabama Juried Show Winners Announced

Winners of the 2026 West Alabama Juried Show were recently announced at the Dinah Washington Cultural Arts Center.

TUSCALOOSA, AL — Winners of the 2026 West Alabama Juried Show were recently announced at the Dinah Washington Cultural Arts Center during the First Friday Art Walk, closing the annual exhibition of regional artists hosted by the Arts Council of Tuscaloosa.

As Patch previously reported, the juried competition featured two- and three-dimensional works submitted by artists across West Alabama, with finalists selected from digital submissions and judged in person by Caycie Trotter, a graphic design and illustration professor at Mississippi University for Women.

The Chamber of Commerce of West Alabama Purchase Award, which includes a $1,000 prize, was awarded to Deborah Hughes for her piece “On the Same Page.”

Hughes' work will be displayed at the Chamber’s downtown Tuscaloosa office as part of The Arts Council’s permanent collection through an ongoing partnership between the organizations.

Watson Frank received the Gail Skidmore Memorial Award of Excellence, accompanied by a $300 prize, for the work “Ayodega.”

Loretta Lynn earned a $100 cash award from The Arts Council for “I am the Fire, the Fire is Me.”

Honorable mentions were awarded to Will Henry for “Andrew,” Will Holley for “Rebirth” and Lorrie Lane for “Crossing.”

Established in 1985, the West Alabama Juried Show supports the Arts Council’s mission to promote visual arts in Tuscaloosa County and the surrounding region by providing local artists an opportunity to exhibit work publicly and compete for awards.
