As Patch previously reported, Seat 1 Councilman Forrest Hudson, who has served on the Council since November 2021, resigned due to his job.

"I speak for all involved with the City when I say we greatly appreciated the service of Forrest Hudson and our community will miss his leadership," Brookwood Mayor Joe Barger told Patch. "Under state law, the Council had 60 days in which to fill that vacancy. In an effort to seek the most qualified individuals an open application process was held."

Barger then said a total of six applicants were considered Tuesday night.

"While all six candidates were very impressive and represented diverse sections of our community, the Council voted unanimously to appoint Allen Abston to the open seat," he said. "I can speak for the entire Brookwood City government in saying we are excited and eager to welcome Allen to our already outstanding City Council. I have the utmost confidence in his ability to serve Place One in an honorable and competent manner."

Abston, 66, will now fill Hudson's unexpired term, which will be up for re-election in 2025.
