Barry Sanderson Youth Basketball Academy Set For July 24-27

TUSCALOOSA, AL — First-year Northridge High School basketball coach Barry Sanderson is set to once again host a youth basketball camp for ages 5-12 later this month.

The camp will be held from July 24-27 at the Belk Activity Center managed by Tuscaloosa County Park & Recreation Authority (PARA)

"The time has come to start making summer plans," Sanderson said. "I would like to personally invite you to attend the Sanderson Basketball Academy at the Belk Center. We will strive each day to not only improve basketball skills, but to make sure each child has an enjoyable experience. All skill levels are welcome and participants will be grouped by age."

Campers are asked to bring a drink container with water or a sports drink and a snack. They are also asked to wear proper clothing and shoes.

Sessions each day will be held from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.

The cost of the Sanderson Basketball Academy is $180 per participant before July 16 and $200 per participant from July 16-24.

The registration deadline is Monday, July 24.

Sanderson — the son of legendary Tide basketball coach Wimp Sanderson — made his own name for himself in the college ranks as an assistant at Wake Forrest and South Carolina, before finding himself the head coach at Tuscaloosa Academy.

Over six seasons, five of which were in the Alabama Independent School Association (AISA), his teams compiled a 120-36 record, making it to the AISA state title came four out of the five years and winning it all twice.

As Patch previously reported, Sanderson was hired as the head coach at Northridge High School in April.
