Bobo To Be First Woman Appointed To Northport City Council
Christy Bobo will be sworn in Monday to serve her first term representing District 1 on the Northport City Council.

NORTHPORT, AL. — The Northport City Council will see its newest member appointed Monday in a moment that will make history for the city.
Christy Bobo is set to be the first woman appointed to the city council and will finish the current unexpired term until November, following a victory in the city's municipal election on Aug. 25. While she will not be the first woman elected to conduct the city's business, she will be the first to receive an appointment to the seat.
Bobo secured her first term on the council by defeating challenger David Crawford with nearly 70% of the vote. Incumbent Tony Roberts, who was appointed to fill the term in 2018, did not seek re-election.

Bobo will be the fifth person to represent District 1 over the last four years of the current unexpired term, with the seat originally being held by the late Dennis Hambright. She will also be sworn in again in November to serve her official term.
"I look forward to working with the council for the remaining months prior to our new team starting in November," she told Patch on Sunday. "I am grateful for the opportunity to learn from the wisdom of outgoing members."

She has also said she plans to support the city's emergency responders and law enforcement, in addition to promoting community engagement that "fosters civic pride."
A lifelong resident of Northport, Bobo is a graduate of Tuscaloosa County High School and the University of Alabama, where she finished with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English.
Bobo currently works as a senior business development specialist for finance and capital markets at Randall-Reilly. Her past experience includes public relations and marketing work for the last 20 years, in addition to being a founding member of the Nick's Kids Foundation.
