With all ballots from Fayette and Tuscaloosa counties already counted, the remaining precincts will not be able to change the outcome to give either of the candidates 50% of the vote, plus one vote.
“Our campaign is very encouraged by the results tonight," Brinyark told Patch. "My supporters worked hard the past couple of months and it showed. Now we get back to work for the runoff.”

"We're excited and I think our message has really resonated with voters," Cox told Patch. "We're excited to get into a runoff and we're going to continue to work hard, meet voters, knock on doors, and keep on with what I would consider a grassroots effort to bring commonsense conservative principles to Montgomery."
Fayette County Commissioner John Underwood is the lone Democrat to qualify for the race and won his party's nomination in an uncontested primary.
Underwood will face off against the winner of the October runoff in the Special General Election, which will be held on Jan. 9, 2024.
The winner of the Special General Election will fill the seat vacated by former state Rep. Kyle South, a Republican from Fayette, who resigned from the legislature this summer to become the president and CEO of the Chamber of Commerce of West Alabama.
Tuscaloosa Patch will post final unofficial numbers once they become available.
