Burton, Webb Among Those Vying For Northport City Administrator

NORTHPORT, AL — The Northport City Council will soon begin interviews to fill the open city administrator position after the application window closed last Monday.

Tuscaloosa Patch obtained a list of the 12 qualified applicants through a public records request, which showed several notable names vying for the position, including the city's police chief and the city attorney for the City of Tuscaloosa. The Northport City Council held a work session Wednesday, where the interview process was discussed and is expected to move forward quickly. In-person interviews will be conducted for local candidates and remote interviews for those from out of the area.

The new full-time city administrator's annual salary will range from $130,000 to $160,000.

Here is a rundown of the candidates, in alphabetical order by last name

GERALD K. BURTON

Current occupation: Chief of the Northport Police Department

TIMOTHY J. DAY

Current occupation: Community Association Manager for Day Properties (TRAM Corp.) in Cape Coral, Florida.

LaPARRY T. HOWELL

Current occupation: Director of Community and Neighborhood Services for City of Tuscaloosa

LAVERNA KNIGHTON

Current occupation: HR representative, compliance specialist for Geico Insurance Co. in Macon, Georgia.

PATRICK S. MARSH

Current occupation: City Administrator for Fitchburg, Wisconsin.

SCOTT W. MESZAROS

Current occupation: City Manager for City of Seward, Alaska.

CHRISTOPHER R. MILLER

Current occupation: Self-employed independent contractor.

NATHAN D. PATTERSON

Current occupation: Officer-in-Charge, First Navy Expeditionary Logistics Regiment

JOHN H. TINKLEPAUGH

Current occupation: Owner and chief engineer for OMNI Engineering in Northport.

MELVIN T. TOWLES

Current occupation: Professional Standards Director for Plant City, Florida.

GLENDA D. WEBB

Current occupation: City Attorney for the City of Tuscaloosa.

RICHARD A. WHITEHEAD

Current occupation: University of Tennessee Municipal Technical Advisory Services.
