Capital Murder Arrest Made In Fatal Willow Lane Shooting

One person is in custody after a shooting left a 19-year-old man dead on Willow Lane.

TUSCALOOSA, AL — Investigators on Sunday morning announced the arrest of a woman believed to have been involved in the shooting death of 19-year-old Versaun Leonard around 11:30 p.m. Friday night in the 3200 block of Willow Lane.

Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit Captain Marty Sellers told local media that Brenygha Edwards, 22, was arrested and charged with capital murder last night. She is currently being held in the Tuscaloosa County Jail with no bond.

Leonard was found at the scene shot multiple times and ultimately died from his injuries.

"The investigation continues and we expect additional arrests to be made," he said.

Last night's arrest shows progress being made following a night of violence in Tuscaloosa that resulted in one death and three injuries in two shootings that occurred less than a hour apart. The other, at Branscomb Apartments on 60th Street, saw a woman and two men injured by gunfire.

No word yet has been given on if the shootings were connected.

While the injuries to the men were not life-threatening, the 19-year-old woman shot at the apartment complex remains in critical condition.
