City Of Northport Nets Grants For Beautification Efforts

The city of Northport on Monday was on the receiving end of three different grants that will be put toward different improvement projects.

NORTHPORT, AL. — The city of Northport has received three separate grants from two organizations that will be put toward different beautification efforts for the city.

The grants were presented during Monday night's regular meeting of the Northport City Council.

Two of the grants come from the Alabama Power Foundation, while a third, much larger Tombigbee Resource Conservation and Development (RC&D) grant was also presented.

Here are the grant awards and what they will be allocated for:

  • Alabama Power Foundation Good Roots Program: $750 to Friends of Historic Northport for crepe myrtles and shrubs at Shirley Place.
  • Alabama Power Foundation Gateway Program: $2,500 to the city of Northport for new welcome signage on Lurleen B. Wallace Boulevard, with the goal of helping to promote the city's brand.
  • Tombigbee RC&D: $10,000 to the city of Northport to complete a pavilion at the west trailhead of the Levee Walk Trail.
