Tuscaloosa County Commission To Consider $15K For TCHS Softball Batting Cages

NORTHPORT, AL — The 2022 spring softball season is here and Tuscaloosa County High School could soon be on the receiving end of funding to improve its facilities.

On Wednesday, the Tuscaloosa County Commission will consider a measure by District 1 Commissioner Stan Acker to give $15,000 in Community Development funding to the TCHS softball program for new batting cages and a cover.

The Wildcats softball team will kick off the 2022 season on Feb. 22 at home against Vestavia Hills and will look to improve from a 24-26-1 overall record last year.

The improvements will be the latest for TCHS athletics if approved, which follows a fall semester that saw drastic renovations to Wildcat Stadium. As Patch previously reported, this included improvements to the W.G. Sullivan Field House, along with the addition of a new turf playing surface on the football field.

Improvements were made possible in 2021 in part thanks to a $40,000 gift from the Tuscaloosa County Commission to TCHS, which was also aimed at helping mitigate financial losses in revenue generated by sporting events and fundraisers that were impacted by the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

The Commission on Wednesday will also consider $4,031 in Community Developing funding for two new goals at Miners Community Park in Vance, along with $5,000 to Duncanville Middle School for a new softball backstop net.
