Crimson Tide Tops List In First Playoff Rankings Of The Season

The announcement was made live on ESPN as Alabama was joined by No. 2 Notre Dame, No. 3 Clemson and No. 4 Ohio State as the top four teams.

TUSCALOOSA, AL. — The Alabama Crimson Tide was named at the No. 1 team in Tuesday's first College Football Playoff ranking selection show of the 2020 season as it looks to make a sixth straight CFP appearance.

The announcement was made live on ESPN as Alabama was joined by No. 2 Notre Dame, No. 3 Clemson and No. 4 Ohio State as the top four teams tapped by the selection committee.

Alabama (7-0 ) has logged five playoff appearances since the inception of the playoff format, currently holding a 6-3 record with two national championships.

During the selection show, ESPN commentator and UA alum Rece Davis pointed out that Alabama will hold the top spot for the 19th week in the history of the College Football Playoff rankings, which is more than double the total of the next team.

A total of five Southeastern Conference schools made it into the top 25.

No. 1 Alabama will host No. 22 Auburn for the Iron Bowl in Tuscaloosa on Saturday.
