Date Changed For 'Preventing Gun Violence' Event Featuring Brian Robinson Jr.

TUSCALOOSA, AL — Tuscaloosa native, former Crimson Tide standout and current NFL running back Brian Robinson Jr. is set to be the featured speaker at a program aimed at dealing with gun violence.

The “Preventing Gun Violence" event was originally set for May 10 at First African Baptist Church, but has now been moved to Saturday, May 20 at the New Heights Resource Community Center — formerly Stillman Heights Elementary.

The event is geared toward serving as a kickoff for the “Positive Ticketing Program."

Robinson was a gridiron standout at Hillcrest High and UA, before joining the Washington Commanders in 2022.

In what would prove a formative experience for the young athlete, he was shot twice during an armed robbery after leaving a restaurant in D.C., prior to the beginning of his rookie season.

Robinson made a full recovery and had one of the most memorable comeback stories of the 2022 NFL season.

The Positive Ticketing program was first developed by Donnie Lee, Jr. of The Ivy Foundation.

As part of the program, school resource officers in Tuscaloosa city and county schools give a Positive Ticket to students they observe doing positive acts.

These tickets provide students with gift cards to local businesses, while monthly and annual Positive Character awards for students.

The free event is open to public and will begin at 5:30 p.m., with dinner and music at 4:30 p.m.
