The DCH Health System's Fayette Medical Center recently ranked as one of two Alabama hospitals in Newsweek's list of "The World's Best Hospitals 2020," which is no small feat, according to the health system and the publication. The Fayette hospital ranked 233rd overall and was second among Alabama hospitals, finishing behind only UAB Hospital in Birmingham.

Bryan Kindred, president and CEO of the DCH Health System, told Patch on Friday via email that DCH is committed to providing excellent care and the team at Fayette Medical Center is a shining example of the system's efforts.

“We are grateful they are part of the DCH team and gratified that they have been recognized by patients and peers alike for their exceptional work,” he said.

Fayette Medical Center, located in Fayette County, has been under a lease agreement with DCH Health System since 1984, according to the system.

DCH Vice President of Marketing and Communications Andy North told Patch the Fayette hospital has 67 licensed beds in the hospital and 122 beds at its longterm care facility. Additionally, the Fayette location is a satellite facility for the system's Lewis and Faye Manderson Cancer Center, which is an MD Anderson affiliate.

North also said the hospital offers full-service diagnostic imaging and LAD, in addition to having a swing bed rehab, a wide array of surgical services and a family medicine clinic in the hospital

Hospitals in the Newsweek rankings were measured on certain metrics through a partnership with data research firm Statista, which ranked the leading hospitals in 21 countries for the 2020 report. The publication says the rankings are based on recommendations from medical professionals, results from patient surveys and key medical performance indicators.

UAB Hospital ranked as the 53rd best hospital in the U.S. with a score of 77.90%, while Fayette Medical Center scored 67.20%.
