Dre Kirkpatrick Jr. Suspended Indefinitely Following Weekend Arrest

TUSCALOOSA, AL — University of Alabama football coach Kalen DeBoer on Monday said he has indefinitely suspended sophomore defensive back Dre Kirkpatrick Jr. following his arrest on several charges over the weekend.

“Unfortunately with the information I have at this time, talked to Dre, and we need to indefinitely suspend him,” DeBoer said during his press conference on Monday. “He understands there are consequences that come with his actions.”

As Patch previously reported, Tuscaloosa County Jail officials confirmed on Sunday that the Gadsden native was charged Saturday with three counts of reckless endangerment, attempting to elude and speeding.

The details of the incident in question have not been made public at this time.

He was released after his bond was set at $1,500 and a spokesperson with the UA Department of Athletics told Patch, "We are aware of an incident involving Dre Kirkpatrick Jr. and are working to gather more details at this time."

Kirkpatrick Jr., a sophomore, is the son of former Alabama All-American and NFL cornerback Dre Kirkpatrick. He has appeared in eight games this season, contributing primarily on special teams and as a reserve in the secondary.

Last season, Kirkpatrick Jr. played in all 13 games, earning recognition from Alabama’s coaching staff as a special teams player of the week for his performance against Vanderbilt.

He recorded nine tackles, including one for a loss, along with a forced fumble and a pass breakup during the 2025 season.

The Gadsden City High School graduate signed with Alabama as part of the Crimson Tide’s 2023 recruiting class.
