Durst Named Director Of College Preparedness At Tuscaloosa Academy
Tuscaloosa Academy on Wednesday announced that Chris Durst has been appointed as the private school's director of College Preparedness.

TUSCALOOSA, AL — Tuscaloosa Academy on Wednesday announced that Chris Durst has been appointed as the private school's director of College Preparedness.

Durst brings over three decades of experience to the newly established role, which Tuscaloosa Academy says is aimed at enriching student readiness and exposure to higher education opportunities.

“The addition of Durst sets Tuscaloosa Academy apart from other educational institutions, demonstrating a commitment to personalized attention for families, continuing of our commitment as a college-preparatory school,” TA Head of School Beckie Share said.
With Durst in place, Tuscaloosa Academy hopes to promote school-wide conversation around college readiness, in addition to instilling skills such as resilience, multiple intelligences, self-awareness of strengths and weaknesses, leadership, and effective teamwork. Durst will collaborate with faculty to integrate these skills into the classroom experience seamlessly.

Durst will also be available for parent and student meetings with college representatives, along with providing faculty-led best practices in essay writing, individualized college counseling focusing on personal and career development, recommendation letters, and a personal discovery questionnaire.
As part of this approach, TA students will also be visiting Furman University, Clemson University, the University of Georgia, Emory University, Georgia Institute of Technology, and Berry College.
During the spring semester, students will travel west and visit other universities.
Durst has served in numerous educational roles, including middle and high school history teacher, admissions director, director of athletics, director of college counseling, dean of students, middle and upper school principal, and head of school.
