How They Ranked: Website Lists Best Private Schools In Tuscaloosa

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — An annual report from Niche.com has ranked Tuscaloosa Academy as the best private high school in Tuscaloosa County. In its 2021 installment, the ranking and review website used a range of metrics in determining the list, ultimately awarding Tuscaloosa Academy with an A+.

"[Tuscaloosa Academy] has 440 students in grades PK, K-12 with a student-teacher ratio of 10 to 1," the report reads. "Tuition is $12,000 for the highest grade offered. After graduation, 99% of students from this school go on to attend a 4-year college."

In terms of overall diversity, The Capitol School finished atop the list with an A+, while Tuscaloosa Academy also nabbed the top spot for the best teachers in the county and college prep.

While not all schools in the report included tuition figures, The Capitol School — by far the most exclusive with the smallest enrollment — has a international student tuition rate of $21,726, which also includes room & board. The tuition for all students living in Alabama ranges from $8,336 to $10,920.

Statewide, Indian Springs School in Birmingham finished as the best private high school in Alabama.

3. American Christian Academy (B+): Academics (B+), Teachers (B-), Clubs & Activities (B+), Diversity (C), College Prep (B), and Sports (A+).
4. Tuscaloosa Christian School (B-): Academics (B+, Teachers (C-), Clubs & Activities (C-), Diversity (C-), College Prep (B-), and Sports (B).
5. North River Christian Academy (C+): Academics (B-), Teachers (C-), Clubs & Activities (C+), Diversity (B-), College Prep (C+), and Sports (B-).
6. The Capitol School (A+): Academics (A+), Teachers (B+), Clubs & Activities (B+), Diversity (A), College Prep (A+), and Sports (B-).
