Sellers went on to say that following an initial investigation, including video surveillance, authorities do not believe the inmate died as a result of altercations/assaults or attempts at self-harm.

VCU was called out to assume the investigation, which will not include investigators or supervisors employed by the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Office, due to the unexpected death occurring in the jail.
