The injured juvenile was transported to a local hospital for treatment with an injury that was considered serious but not life-threatening.
Investigators determined the shooting occurred inside a residence where the suspect lives.
Sellers said the suspect’s mother was home at the time of the incident but told investigators she was unaware her son had access to a firearm.
Following interviews with witnesses and those involved, the juvenile was charged with second-degree assault and being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm.
He is being held pending further action by the court and Sellers said the investigation remains ongoing.
Due to Alabama law, authorities are not releasing the identities of the juveniles involved.
