Katie Britt Grabs GOP Nomination In Alabama Senate Runoff

TUSCALOOSA, AL — Multiple media outlets have called the Republican Primary runoff for U.S. Senate in Alabama for former Alabama Business Council CEO Katie Britt over Congressman Mo Brooks.

This comes after Brooks acknowledged the loss in a speech to supporters at his election night watch party just before the official call was made by the Associated Press at 8:30 p.m.

Britt, who also served as chief of staff for Republican U.S. Sen. Richard Shelby, will now be the Republican nominee on the Nov. 8 General Election ballot.

The 40-year-old attorney and University of Alabama graduate bested a field of six candidates in the Republican Primary and will now face Democratic nominee Will Boyd.

Britt saw her poll numbers surge ahead of grabbing nearly 45% of the Republican vote during the May 26 primary and likely received an added boost following the endorsement of former President Donald Trump.

Trump had previously backed Brooks, but withdrew his endorsement when support for the rogue congressman began to wane.

The winner of the senate race in November will assume the seat vacated by Shelby, who opted to retire as the longest serving U.S. senator in Alabama's history.

If Britt wins in November, she will become the first woman from Alabama elected to the United States Senate.
