1. Investigators gave updates Friday and identified the man killed in an officer-involved shooting Thursday night with Tuscaloosa Police officers. The man reportedly shot at his two children and their mother in their vehicle, before leading police on a foot pursuit that ended with the man shooting at police, who returned fire and killed him. 2. In an unrelated shooting and homicide investigation, police identified the man found shot to death Thursday at Springhill Apartments as Omar Childers, 19. No arrests have been made in this case and the investigation remains ongoing. (More on Patch)

3. Richard Trumka, president of The American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations, issued a video message Friday in support of striking United Mine Workers of America members at Brookwood-based Warrior Met Coal. (Watch)

4. The A-Day Game is set for today in Tuscaloosa and will air at noon local time on ESPN. The final public football scrimmage will see Bryant-Denny Stadium capacity at 50% capacity, with gates opening at 10 a.m. (More)

- Three middle school students from The Capitol School are among the top 10% of middle school STEM projects nationwide and after winning at the state level, will now compete nationally. Sera Stone, Jacob Shankman and Josiah Whatley are all nominated for the 2021 Broadcom MASTERS —a program of Society for Science.

- Work is set to begin Monday on an Elevate Tuscaloosa initiative to improve the Tuscaloosa National Airport runway. The project will see the removal of the existing asphalt on the runway, creating a soil-cement base with new asphalt surface material. Runway end identifier lights will also be installed.

- Tuscaloosa Academy students Michael Constantine and Grayson Kim both qualified for the National Geography Bee’s US National Championship. Michael also qualified for the International World Championship. (More)
