'A Moveable Feast' To Benefit School Garden Education In Tuscaloosa Area

TUSCALOOSA, AL — Local nonprofit Schoolyard Roots on Thursday announced plans for its third annual celebration of local food and farms in support of school garden education.

Dudded, "A Moveable Feast,” the event will last from Sept. 26 through Oct. 1, with 12 Tuscaloosa eateries offering a “Schoolyard Roots Special" to customers.

The special will offer a dish or drink made with produce from a local farmer, with a portion of the proceeds going to benefit Schoolyard Roots.

The mission of the nonprofit is to promote garden education in 12 Tuscaloosa city and Tuscaloosa County elementary schools.

Apart from the ongoing specials, Schoolyard Roots will also hold a concurrent virtual Silent Auction — Market Table — and Plant Pull that features items from local farmers, artists, and artisans.

The nonprofit says the Plant Pull will award gift certificates to over three dozen local businesses.

Additionally, a Kick-Off Event be held at Druid City Brewing Co. from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 26. The event will feature live music, a chance to play the Plant Pull in person, and Druid City Brewing Company's special Schoolyard Roots Lemon Basil Beer and Garden Herb Pizza.
